Jo Fairfax creates physical sculptures as well as art works that employ sculptural light. Based in the East Midlands, his public art commissions can be seen throughout the UK.
Trained in sculpture, Jo subsequently studied holography at the Royal College of Art in London, and at the Holo Centre in New York. His work developed further into the area of virtual reality when he was awarded a NESTA (National Endowment for Science, Art and Technology) Fellowship.
Alongside the Fellowship, Jo has received numerous accolades including: nine Arts Council Awards, the Wingate Scholarship, two Oxford Film and Video Awards, the Chiaya Arts Judge's Award, and the New Technologies Award.
He is a Board Director for Design: Midlands and has exhibited widely, including at the Barbican Centre Art Gallery, Oxo Tower, Royal Academy and Somerset House. In 2021, he had a one man show at the National Centre for Craft and Design. He has a solo exhibition in Seoul in January 2025 and a solo exhibition at the University of Nottingham’s Djanogly Gallery, Lakeside Arts, in 2025.
